What is OTOP?
OTOP Products are the wonderful hand-made creations of Thailand's myriad village communities, refined and brought to the marketplace as the attractive handicrafts and local products that visitors love to buy. OTOP stands for "One Tambon One Product" (Tambon means village in thai), a Thai government initiative launched in 2001 to identify and promote unique products made by village communities as a means of expanding the country's domestic and international trade as well as improving incomes of villagers. There are six product groups classified for promotion:|

These cover a vast variety of traditional items made in communities the length and breadth of Thailand, each lovingly crafted from local materials with skill and pride handed down through many generations, each with the inimitable flavor and style of their localities.
Local Link, Global Reach
Under the umbrella of OTOP, community products are reaching out to the world market thanks to their unique appeal and designs. OTOP exhibitions are a feature of trade shows in Thailand organized by the Department of Export Promotion (DEP), enabling thousands of International buyers to discover the quality and appeal of attractive hand-made local products. On the horizon is the establishment of OTOP kiosks throughout Thailand, the development of e-commerce for OTOP products and road shows of OTOP items with high export potential at international trade fairs in which the DEP participates.
